New political party claims expat voters “shocked” to discover names missing on electoral roll
Members of a newly formed political party in Arboleas were “shocked” to discover that their names were not on the electoral roll despite having ticked all the right boxes on registration forms, they claim.
Guidelines set out in this paper two weeks ago described the methods and help offered to expats in contacting the central electoral census office to ensure people could vote in the forthcoming local elections in 2011.
However, at a Ciudadanos Europeos (CE) meeting led by Crispin Whelby and a provisional committee in Albox this week, it emerged that some British expats who believed they had fulfilled their paperwork obligations for suffrage found their names were missing from the list.
Mr Whelby, who along with others is at the primary stages of forming a branch of CE in Arboleas using the slogan ‘The Listening Party’ told this reporter that while many enquiries had resulted in assurances, they had received three “shocks” with names not appearing on the electoral roll.
