Voting guidelines announced for foreigners in a bid to avoid red tape
Help is at hand for expats in Almería facing endless paperwork, town hall bureaucracy and political red-tape in order to vote in the forthcoming local elections.
Residents from the EU entitled to vote in the May 2011 Spanish elections will find it harder to claim they are without support and information as both political and community organisations are rallying to ensure foreigners in Spain take up their right to vote.
Local expat anti-urban abuse pressure group AUAN have set up shop in Albox as reported in this paper last week, offering free help to anyone who is experiencing problems in registering and issuing guidelines on how to confirm people are on the electoral roll (see below).
Meanwhile, left-wing political party Izquierda Unida (IU) are holding numerous meetings throughout the province, offering a helping hand to foreigners who may be experiencing problems with the voting process, using the slogan ‘We care for foreign voters’.
