“The whole Brexit process has been incredibly abusive and traumatic,” Denise Abel, formerly a psychotherapist for 30 years in the east of London, told The Local from her home in central Italy. ... In a September 2018 survey of 300 Brits in the EU, conducted by Brexpats Hear Our Voice, 284 respondents said they were suffering from stress or anxiety. ... There are no official figures about the impact Brexit is having on the mental health of some of the most vulnerable British citizens living in the EU. Most people The Local has interviewed recently estimate that “thousands” of Brits across the EU are experiencing extensive stress, anxiety and depression linked to the uncertainty about their futures. ... For many elderly British citizens living in the EU, concerns revolve around access to healthcare.

British people resident in Spain are advised to ensure they are correctly registered to vote in next year’s local elections in May 2019 if they hope to cast a ballot. Discussions are already underway between the British and Spanish governments over voting rights in future town hall elections after Brexit, set for March 29, next year.
 
A Costa Blanca-based group of British expatriates campaigning to remain in the EU have said they are considering appealing against High Court ruling on the legality of the Brexit referendum.

The latest figures show the number of British residents in Spain applying for Spanish citizenship has tripled since the Brexit vote. According to data from Spain’s General Department for Registries and Notaries, published in El Pais, 166 Britons requested Spanish citizenship in the first 10 months of 2018. The number of Brits choosing to take Spanish citizenship is still very low compared to the requests by other nationalities. ... although Spain will technically require you to renounce your British citizenship, the UK authorities allow dual nationality so will still consider you a British subject.
 
The number of Brits applying for Spanish citizenship has tripled since 2015 when David Cameron reiterated his promise of a Brexit vote. After the Tory leader made an election promise to hold an in-out referendum on the UK’s EU membership, swathes of Britons applied to be recognised as Spanish. In 2015 just 50 British people registered Spanish citizenship applications, but in the first 10 months of 2018 that number had soared to 166. ... Britain is fourth in the EU for Spanish citizenship applications after Romanians, Italians and Bulgarians.

President of the Valencia region Ximo Puig travelled to London on Monday to meet Spain’s ambassador to the UK over the ‘uncertainty created by Brexit’. After the meeting he announced that the region will set up three forums – for agriculture, tourism and industry – to offer information to businesses, associations and farmers.

...no se les reconoce el derecho de votar dentro del acuerdo de retirada, no fue posible por oposición de la Unión Europea. Tendremos que pasar por los Estados miembros y necesitaremos negociar con el Gobierno español un acuerdo bilateral para las elecciones municipales. ... Estamos en continuo contacto con la comunidad británica... les decimos lo que tienen que hacer y usamos el mensaje de que es importante registrarse para tener pruebas de que son residentes legales. Hay muchos más británicos aquí de los que están en el padrón. ... Lo prioritario es el acuerdo con la Union Europea. Hay aspectos que necesitan acuerdo bilateral y que no están, como el reconocimiento de las pensiones y los sistemas sanitarios, algo acordado con la Unión Europea para los actuales residentes. Pero lo que tenemos que negociar es lo que pasará en el futuro con el resto de británicos, con los que quieran venir a vivir...

Mrs May failed to guarantee state pension arrangements for British expats in the deal with the EU she is attempting to wrangle through Parliament. In a shocking admission in the House of Commons last week, the Prime Minister said she still needed to “negotiate some of the arrangements in relation to certain benefits, such as pensions, under the future trading relationship”. ... A Briton in receipt of a UK state pension elsewhere in the EU .... could see pension incomes staying put and not increasing in line with other UK pensions. ... Furious action groups are demanding Mrs May change the rules surrounding pensions on her withdrawal agreement.
