The British Embassy and its consular team are stepping up efforts to inform British citizens living here how to prepare and what to expect in the coming months.
 
In the event of a hard Brexit, the right of expat pensioners living in the EU to the annual updates will continue, says London, and officials hope longer-term deals will be done

The British government has announced that it will continue to uprate the UK state pension paid to people living in the EU – but only for the next three years.
In a statement sent out by the British Embassy in Madrid on Wednesday, Boris Johnson’s government committed to ‘continue raising pensions paid to residents in the EU each year until March 2023, in the event that the UK leaves the EU without a deal’.
 
The British government announced on Tuesday that state pensions for pensioners living in the EU will be uprated each year until 2022 if the UK crashes out of the EU on October 31st without a deal.
