Too much “outrage and genuine hurt” to let insult lie, says AUAN

THE AUAN pressure group is to sue the Junta’s housing minister for defamation over the controversial remarks she made last month about expats living in the region.

Thirteen British people presented the complaint against Josefina Cruz Villalón, the regional government’s housing minister, at the High Court of Andalucía in Granada.

Sra Cruz Villalón’s comments were made during a parliamentary session in Seville and have upset many within the expat community. Cruz Villalón began by saying she had discussed the matter of illegal houses in Andalucía with the British ambassador but then admitted she did not care about “a group of people that have set up home illegally in our territory”.

She went on to say the problem of illegal homes in Andalucía had been caused by the foreigners’ “lack of respect toward the territory and the culture”. She also accused a conservative rival of “defending the interests of people that are not from this country and have established themselves illegally”.
