Mayor moves fast on new housing regulations as regional elections loom

Costa Almería News | Noticia

Albox town councillors this week agreed to implement the new building regulations just one week after the Junta’s new housing decree came into force.

Promising legal protection and long-awaited water and electricity utilities that many households have not received for years due to their ‘illegal’ status - Albox mayor, José García, approved the plans on Monday which could affect up to 500 properties in the municipality.

Albox has the dubious distinction of being the town with the largest number of irregular houses in the Almanzora valley as defined by the recent decree made law on March 5, identifying 497 houses with problems there.

The meeting, which laid out the socialist PSOE-led council’s plans for those affected, was also attended by José Manuel Ortiz, the Junta’s housing chief for the province of Almería and candidate for the regional government in Andalucía.
