Zurgena seeks expats to join new civil protection unit

Zurgena council plans to set up a civil protection unit in the town by drawing on members of the expat community for support and participation, it was announced this week.
 
The proposal is to join forces with neighbouring Arboleas to create a local resource for emergencies and community events.
 
Zurgena councillor Jim Simpson, a retired policeman and staunch supporter of the proposal, said the council was keen to enlist expats to help integration and “create a real sense of community” in the town.
 
In an interview with CA News, he said: “There are many members of the expat community with skills and time to offer, and we ask them to step forward to help their communities.”
