20 Enero 2012 Expats driven to despair while Los Gallardos turns blind eye to illegal campsite Costa Blanca News | Noticia A mobile home park operating illegally for years under the nose of Los Gallardos council has become a home from hell for scores of Brits, Costa Almería News can reveal. The Grand Oasis site, which has been operating without any permits since it opened in 2001, holds up to 220 static mobile homes and caravans, 158 of which are occupied, mostly by retired British couples. Los Gallardos council authorised the construction of the campsite in December 2001 but never granted the necessary permits for the park to start operating. As a result, the campsite stands on rural land and lacks the necessary infrastructure. Meanwhile, residents have endured years of legal uncertainty and harassment from the park’s owners, according to expat Dave Church, 66, a retired caravan site inspector, who has been fighting a lengthy legal battle to denounce the camp’s activities. Mr Church accused Los Gallardos council of ignoring the problem. He said: “They knew the campsite was illegal but despite my requests for an interview with mayoress Maria Gonzalez they’ve done nothing about it.”
